レナード・N・スターン・スクール Appoints Alumnus as New Dean of MBA Students

Conor Grennan, an alumnus of New York University’s Stern School of Business, has become the school’s dean of students for the MBA program. Grennan will serve as a liaison between the Stern’s administration and its more than 2,500 full-time and Langone MBA students.

Before attending Stern’s full-time MBA program, Grennan founded non-governmental organization (NGO) Next Generation Nepal, which has rescued 500 trafficked children in post-war Nepal and reconnected them with their families. 

At Stern, he wrote Little Princes: One Man’s Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal, a New York Times best-selling book chronicling motivations for and experiences with his NGO. Grennan earned his MBA from Stern in 2010 and served as president of the student body during his second year there.

Before earning his MBA, Grennan worked for international think tank EastWest Institute as a project manager in the Czech Republic overseeing parliamentarians from eight Balkan countries and the European Parliament to help harmonize legislation between the countries. 

He later led policy development for post-conflict democracy building in South Eastern Europe as deputy director of the Program of Security and Governance at the EU headquarters in Belgium. He founded Next Generation Nepal in 2006 and will continue as a member of its Board of Directors.

This year, His Holiness the Dalai Lama named Grennan a recipient of the Unsung Heroes of Compassion, the Huffington Post named him one of its “Game Changers of the Year” in 2011, and his book is required reading in numerous colleges and universities around the country.

*Applicants will receive one of three initial notifications: invitation to interview, waitlist offer, or denial of admissions.

All applications are due at 11:59 p.m. EST on the day of the deadline. Any mailed portions of the application must be postmarked by the deadline date.

NYU Stern Introduces New Essay Question

NYU Stern is introducing a new Essay 2 to its full-time MBA application for Fall 2013 applicants, the first major change in the essays in six years. 

The question will assess an applicant's fit with the Stern mission and mindset about creating value in an environment of increased ambiguity. The School believes these qualities are essential to lead in today's global business environment.

"The central issues of our time--from fiscal and environmental sustainability to the rise of emerging markets and the coming wave of urbanization--cry out for disruptive leaders who can think across traditional intellectual boundaries and work collaboratively to harness the power of markets for the good of the world," said Peter Henry, Dean of NYU Stern. 

The new Essay 2, titled "Your Two Paths," asks the following:
The mission of the Stern School of Business is to develop people and ideas that transform the challenges of the 21st century into opportunities to create value for business and society. Given today's ever-changing global landscape, Stern seeks and develops leaders who thrive in ambiguity, embrace a broad perspective and think creatively about the range of ways they can have impact.
        (a) Describe two different and distinct paths you could see your
        career taking long term. How do you see your two paths unfolding?
        (b) How do your paths tie to the mission of NYU Stern?
        (c) What factors will most determine which path you will take?
       
Stern will keep its well-known "Personal Expression" Essay 3 that invites applicants to describe themselves to their future classmates, using almost any creative medium, including video.
