Texas McCombs Essay Topics 2012-2013


The UT Austin / McCombs essay topics for 2012-2013 are now available:

The two required essays and one optional essay 


Required Essays
1. Describe how your professional and personal experiences have led you to pursue an MBA at this time. Please share with us your short and long term goals and why the Texas MBA at McCombs is the program best positioned to help you achieve them.
 Limit: 800 words

2. At the University of Texas at Austin, our motto is “What starts here changes the world.” Here at McCombs, we are looking for students who share this vision. We believe that the MBA experience is a transformative one and that our students are able to have a positive impact, not only on their own lives, but also in their workplaces, their local communities, their professional industries and/or the world generally.
a) In your life to date, please tell us about an instance when you felt that you had the most positive impact and why you believe it to be significant?

b) How do you intend to positively impact the MBA community while you are an MBA student at McCombs?

c) After graduation from business school, what kind of positive impact would you like to have?

Optional Essay
Please provide any additional information to the admissions committee that you believe is important and/or will address any areas of concern that will be beneficial to the committee in considering your application. (For example, if your standardized test scores are low or if you have not had coursework in core business subjects (i.e. calculus, microeconomics, statistics, financial accounting), please tell us how you plan to prepare yourself for the quantitative rigor of the MBA curriculum.)

UT Austin McCombs Deadlines 2012-2013



The 2012-2013 deadlines for the full-time MBA program at UT Austin / McCombs have been announced  The four rounds of deadlines are as follows:

Round 1
Deadline: October 16, 2012
Notification: December 14, 2012
Round 2
Deadline: December 4, 2012
Notification: February 15, 2013
Round 3
Deadline: January 23, 2013
Notification: March 29, 2013
Round 4
Deadline: March 26, 2013
Notification: May 10, 2013

McCombs gets $6 Million for Startup Accelerator Texas Venture Labs

Jon Brumley, a Fort Worth businessman and entrepreneur has given more than $6 million to the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin to fund the growth of the school’s startup accelerator program, Texas Venture Labs

Brumley, who holds a BBA from McCombs and an MBA from the Wharton School, hopes his gift will help to grow the Texas economy while giving a leg up to young entrepreneurs who remind him of himself.

Brumley, founded six oil and gas companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange, was Forbes magazine’s 2005 “Entrepreneur of the Year” along with his son, Jonny.
 
McComb's accelerator has worked with 40 companies that have raised more than $25 million in investment capital just in the two years since it was established. It also sponsors the annual Venture Labs Investment Competition, underway now on the McCombs campus.

The 2012 investment competition is entitled “Investor Ready.” Taking place this year from May 2-5, the annual event draws graduate schools from around the world to Austin each spring
