シカゴ大学経営大学院 (Booth) #1 in The Economist MBA Ranking

The Economist's new 2018 MBA ranking University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business recaptured first place after losing the spot to Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business last year.

No. 2 = Kellogg
No. 3 = Harvard Business School
No. 4 = University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School
No. 5 = Stanford Graduate School of Business, all of which retained their previous year ranks, there were some big changes.
  • UC-Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business fell out of The Economist’s top ten, slipping four spots each to 11th and 12th, respectively.
  • IESE Business School in Spain jumped 11 places to rank sixth from 17th a year ago. The University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business climbed five spots to rank seventh from 12th a year earlier.

WARWICK IN BRITAIN NOW RANKED HIGHER THAN EITHER INSEAD OR LONDON BUSINESS SCHOOL
Rounding out the top ten schools are No. 8 UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, No. 9  University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, and No. 10 Columbia Business School.
As is often the case in the British magazine’s rather unpredictable and often nonsensical ranking, there are some real shocks. Warwick Business School, placing 18th, is ranked one spot higher than INSEAD, a school that is often neck and neck with London Business School for being the best in Europe. Warwick didn’t even make The Economist’s 2017 ranking at all. Meantime, this year London landed outside the top 20, ranking 27th, below No. 24 SDA Bocconi School of Management in Italy and No. 21 University of Florida’s Warrington College of Business.

UP!!!
  • The University of Washington’s Foster School of Business soared 14 places to finish 22nd,
  • University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business jumped 10 spots to finish 25th
  • Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business jumped 33 places to rank 31st from 64th
  • The University of Bath shot up 20 places to finish 47th from 67th
  • Penn State’s Smeal College of Business gained 15 spots to rank 50th.

DOWN
  •  Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business plunged 14 spots to rank 36th
  • The University of Queensland in Australia droppws 22 places to rank 38th
  • Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business sunk 10 spots to 48th
  • IE Business School in Spain tumbled 29 spots to rank 63rd this year, the school’s second significant fall in a row. Only two years ago, in 2016, The Economist had ranked IE’s MBA program 16th best in the world..

MBA ニュース:シカゴ大学 ブース to Make Hong Kong’s Mount Davis Asia Executive MBA Hub

The University of Chicago Booth School of Business hopes to renovate Hong Kong’s historic Mount Davis site, once an artillery base, into a new intellectual hub to serve as home to the school’s Executive MBA Program in Asia.
“The center will allow us to engage even more effectively with the business and academic communities in Hong Kong,” Chicago Booth Dean Sunil Kumar said in a statement. “It will be a testament to our lasting commitment to educating leaders in the region.”

Originally a gun battery in the 1930s, Mount Davis became a mess hall and clubhouse for British officers after World War II and later a government detention center. Chicago Booth’s plans would involve adaptive reuse of some of the original structure and key architectural elements, such as fireplaces and arches, as proscribed by local conservation management guidelines.

Building plans were submitted in January, and Town Planning approval is slated for June 2015. Pending approval and subsequent land grant execution, construction could start in August 2016, with occupancy anticipated for August 2018.

Essay & Presentation Topics
Chicago Booth values adventurous inquiry, diverse perspectives, and a collaborative exchange of ideas.  This is us.  Who are you?
Presentation/Essay Guidelines
Be reflective. We’ve learned a lot about you throughout the application, but what more should we know?
Interpret broadly.  “Who are you?” can be interpreted in many different ways.  We encourage you to think critically and broadly about who you are, and how your values, passions and experiences have influenced you.
Determine your own length.  There is no prescribed minimum or maximum length. We trust that you will use your best judgment in determining how long your submission should be, but we recommend that you think strategically about how to best allocate the space.
Choose the format that works for you. You can design your presentation or compose your essay in the format that you feel best captures your response. However, please consider the specific technical restrictions noted below.
Think about you, not us.  Rather than focusing on what you think we want to hear, focus on what is essential for us to know about you. Simply put, be genuine.
Technical Guidelines
File Size: Maximum file size is 16 MB.
Accepted Upload Formats:  Acceptable formats are PDF, Word and Powerpoint.
Multimedia Restrictions: We will be viewing your submission electronically and in full color, but all submissions will be converted to PDF files, so animation, video, music, etc. will not translate over.
Preserve Your Formatting: We strongly recommend converting your piece to a PDF file prior to submitting to ensure that everything you see matches what we see.
Chicago Booth also requires that reapplicants to its program complete the following essay question:
Reapplicant Essay: Upon reflection, how has your perspective regarding your future, Chicago Booth, and/or getting an MBA changed since the time of your last application? (300 words maximum)

MBA 留学 ニュース:シカゴ大学経営大学院 Changes Application Process for 2014-2015

The University of Chicago Booth School of Business admission staff, rather than students will review applications starting with the 2014-2015 application season.

The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School made a similar change two years ago, discontinuing the use of MBA students as first readers.

Until now, Booth applications were assigned to MBA students known as Admissions Fellows, chosen for their involvement as first-year students in giving tours and running Admit Weekends and their demonstrated passion for the school.

Fellows would be assigned as many as 10 to 12 files a week in peak periods, and they would be tasked with grading each of six elements (test scores, academics, work experience, extracurricular activities, essays and recommendations) on a scale of one to six. They would also provide an overall score for the application as well as a subjective “Fit to Booth” score.

Starting later this year, that responsibility will be handled entirely by admissions staff.
